Recap: Port Allegany Gators vs. Randolph Cardinals

After a string of three wins, the Port Allegany Gators's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were beaten by Randolph 78-37. Port Allegany was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-14.

Port Allegany lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Kayleigha Dowell, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Dowell scored a full 40.5% of Port Allegany's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ella Moses was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Randolph found their leader in underclassman Skylar Herington, who scored 37 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The game was Herington's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinn Pence, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and six assists.

Port Allegany's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Randolph, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Port Allegany will head out on the road to face off against Cameron County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Cameron County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Thursday. Randolph will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cassadaga Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 12, 2024.
