Football Game Preview: Lone Star Rangers vs. Sherman Bearcats

Lone Star has gone a perfect 4-0 against Sherman recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Rangers will square off against the Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. Lone Star will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Lone Star is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They put the hurt on Frisco with a sharp 55-35 win two weeks ago. Fans of the Rangers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

A big part of Lone Star's victory came down to the chemistry between Rece Hoyt and his top target Trey Wright. Hoyt gained 271 total yards and five touchdowns while Wright threw for 321 yards and three TDs on only 17 passes. The dominant performance also gave Hoyt a new career-high in rushing yards (241). Lone Star's leading receiver Davian Groce was Wright's top target yet again, picking up 140 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Lone Star was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 366 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 160 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

One reason for the win was Lone Star's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kaleb Tasby, Christopher Knauls, and Brody Fann, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Sherman had to suffer through a 48-17 loss at the hands of Frisco. The Bearcats haven't had much luck with the Raccoons recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Sherman's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Lone Star, their win bumped their record up to 6-0.

Everything came up roses for Lone Star against Sherman in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 52-7 victory. In that contest, the Rangers amassed a halftime lead of 28-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
