Baseball Recap: Morgan Township Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Morgan Township barely beat South Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cherokees were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Satellites on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Cherokees, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Drew Horvath was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cal Lemmons, who went 2-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Clayton Atchison, who went 1-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Morgan Township's third in a row) raised their record to 16-9. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for South Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season.

Morgan Township has already played their next game, a 4-2 defeat against Boone Grove on the 20th. As for South Central, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Culver Community at 4:30 p.m. on the 28th.
