Adding to the longest winning streak in Minnesota River this week, Watertown-Mayer beat Jordan 35-21. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Royals.
Sibley East lost to Mayer Lutheran 34-17 last week, the largest margin of any game.
The Crusaders' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Cole Buttenhoff threw for 249 and 3 touchdowns and Anthony Gruenhagen had 106 yards receiving. On the ground Joel Burfeind contributed 100 yards. Burfeind helped Mayer Lutheran's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 88 yards.
He was 16-22 with 1 interception.
Buttenhoff put up the best numbers in passing as Mayer Lutheran topped the Wolverines. Buttenhoff's favorite target this week was Gruenhagen, who caught 7 passes for 106 yards.
Mayer Lutheran's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Crusaders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Buttenhoff has thrown for 1,146 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, while Gruenhagen has 40 catches for 656 yards.
Burfeind has rushed for 905 yards on 148 carries so far this year.
Watertown-Mayer led the league in scoring this week by notching 35 points on the Hubmen/Jaguars. Brett Johnson threw for 115 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 76 yards in the win.
