Basketball Recap: Pacifica Comes Up Short

Pacifica had lost two consecutive heartbreakers to Rio Mesa and they left with a heavy heart again on Thursday. The Tritons took a 44-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans. The Tritons haven't had much luck with the Spartans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Rio Mesa's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Quinto led the charge by putting up 11 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Quinto has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nayeli Alfaro, who posted 16 points.

Pacifica's loss dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Rio Mesa, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season.

Pacifica will face off against St. Joseph at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Rio Mesa, they will challenge San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
