Basketball Recap: Maxwell Comes Up Short

Maxwell played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Biggs Wolverines 53-21. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wolverines apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Maxwell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Bethany Wilson, who posted seven points.

Biggs was led to victory by Destinee Harriston and Anna Carothers. Harriston went 10 for 14 en route to 23 points in addition to seven steals and five assists, while Carothers had 20 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Those 23 points gave Harriston a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcella Solis-Lopez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine boards and ten steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Maxwell and nudges their season record down to 2-15. As for Biggs, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Maxwell Panthers face off against the Portola Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portola has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Biggs has already played their next match (against Williams), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
