Football Recap: Belton Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Belton lost against University back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Tigers took a 33-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans.

Despite the loss, Belton still got an impressive performance from Will Shepard, who rushed for 98 yards and one score, and also threw for 98 yards and one TD. Shepard showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 53 yards.

University's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savoy Nichols led the charge by rushing for 110 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries, while also throwing for 207 yards and a pair of TDs. Those 110 rushing yards gave Nichols a new career-high. London Smith also helped with two scores in total.

Belton has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.8 points over those games. As for University, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Belton and University should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Tigers (ranked 305th) will meet Rudder (ranked 739th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, University will challenge Waco at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (245 vs. 790).
