Softball Recap: Legend Starts Season with Victory at Home

Legend took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Legacy Lightning a 12-0 shutout. The Titans haven't had any issues with the Lightning recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Maddie Kessel was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Kessel was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Ella Athey was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Caylee Humphrey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Legend kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 14 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Legend will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Broomfield at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Legacy, they will be playing at home against Mountain Range at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
