West Monroe entered their tilt with Ruston on Friday with 15 consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with 16. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Bearcats 3-1. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 9-4 last Thursday.

Drew Ferguson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, West Monroe's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Anderson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Anderson has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another was Lytton Arledge, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances.

West Monroe hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.

West Monroe's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-6-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Ruston, their loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 24-10.
