Baseball Recap: Union County Wins Going Away Against Stephens County

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Union County walked away with it. They put the hurt on the Stephens County Indians with a sharp 9-3 win on Friday.

Colten Gibson was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Maddox Patton was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one double. He has become a key player for Union County: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Lane Haney was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.

Union County's victory bumped their record up to 15-12. As for Stephens County, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 19-9.

Union County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair will be back at it again later today.
