The Austin Maroons are headed away from home for the first time to challenge the Johnson Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Austin will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Round Rock Westwood, who they hadn't topped in five consecutive meetings. Austin pulled ahead with a 35-34 photo finish over Round Rock Westwood on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Johnson gave up the first points last Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 35-24 victory over Stony Point. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jaguars.

Johnson can attribute much of their success to W. Garrett Hall, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown, and Kael Hatnot, who rushed for 140 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Hatnot has posted since back in September of 2023. Johnson also got a significant boost from Zachary Isaak, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 86 yards.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Johnson was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 462 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stony Point only gained 252.

Austin's record now sits at 2-0. As for Johnson, their win ended a three-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-0.

Austin and Johnson were almost perfectly matched up when the teams last played back in October of 2023, but Austin suffered an agonizing 20-19 loss. Thankfully for Austin, Carson Mcmullin (who rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 69 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
