Volleyball Recap: Sunnyslope Falls Short Against Ranked Xavier College Prep

Sunnyslope faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Vikings lost 3-0 to the Gators. The loss continues a trend for the Vikings in their meetings with the Gators: they've now lost six in a row.

Sunnyslope took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-15, 26-24.

Hayes Haan paced Sunnyslope's offense, picking up eight kills. Haan got some help from Lilli Schmitt and her 18 assists.

Leading Xavier College Prep to victory were Mattea Saunders and Selah O'Connor. Saunders had 15 digs and two aces, while O'Connor had 16 assists. Saunders is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Sunnyslope's defeat dropped their record down to 19-11. As for Xavier College Prep, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 26-2.

Sunnyslope has already played their next matchup, a 3-2 loss against O'Connor on the 16th. As for Xavier College Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Corona del Sol on the 16th.
