Basketball Recap: Foothill Takes a Loss

If Foothill was feeling good fresh off their 48-23 takedown of Santa Clara last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Foothill Falcons took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newark Memorial Cougars on Saturday. The Falcons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Newark Memorial's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angelina Baca led the charge by putting up 19 points. Baca is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Mai Weeks, who posted 12 points.

Foothill dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Newark Memorial, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Foothill will welcome Mission San Jose at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Newark Memorial, they will finish 2024 at home by hosting Arroyo Grande at 7:45 p.m. on Monday.
