Preview: Chavez Titans vs. Kennedy Thunderbirds
Chavez has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Kennedy Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Chavez will be strutting in after a victory while Kennedy will be coming in after a loss.
Last Friday, Chavez strolled past Taft with points to spare, taking the game 47-28.
Hannah Diaz was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with four blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Chloe Lopez was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with four steals.
Kennedy suffered their biggest loss since November 28, 2023 on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 56-28 loss at the hands of Shafter. While losing is never fun, Kennedy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 965th, while Shafter is ranked 231st).
Kennedy's defeat came about despite a quality game from Valeria Payan, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Devani Ochoa, who scored two points along with two steals and two blocks.
Chavez is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. As for Kennedy, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
Chavez was able to grind out a solid win over Kennedy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, winning 39-28. Will Chavez repeat their success, or does Kennedy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
