Volleyball Recap: East Jackson Eagles vs. Athens Academy Spartans

East Jackson had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-8 to make it five. They fell just short of the Athens Academy Spartans by a score of 2-1. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2024.

Victoria Zeliski paced East Jackson's offense, picking up six kills. Zeliski got some help from Julia Zeliski and her 18 assists. Moore Emilou controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

As for Athens Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since August 14th.

Athens Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lucy Wages, who had 18 assists and five digs. Wages has been hot, having posted 13 or more assists the last five times she's played. Joci Higginbotham also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Jackson will square off against Jackson County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Athens Academy, they will take on Loganville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
