Softball Game Preview: Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings vs. Independence Mustangs

Vinton-Shellsburg is 2-8 against Independence since June of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Vikings will head out on the road to challenge the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Vinton-Shellsburg is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Alburnett, falling 10-1.

Meanwhile, Independence suffered their biggest defeat since June 11th on Tuesday. They lost 13-2 to West Delaware. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Hawks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 4-20. As for Vinton-Shellsburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-16.

Vinton-Shellsburg suffered a grim 14-4 defeat to Independence in their previous matchup back in June of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
