Basketball Recap: Chula Vista Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Nancy Chavez and Tracy Echoku

Chula Vista managed to keep up with Eastlake until halftime on Wednesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Chula Vista Spartans lost 60-34 to the Eastlake Titans. The Spartans have struggled against the Titans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Tracy Echoku and Nancy Chavez certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Echoku dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards, while Chavez posted eight points and 16 rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Echoku a new career-high in field goal percentage (70%).

Even though they lost, Chula Vista smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Eastlake got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Amelia Greer out in front who went 8 of 19 en route to 17 points and three steals. Ava Ellorin was another key player, going 7 for 10 to rack up 17 points.

Chula Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Eastlake, their record now sits at 5-16.

Chula Vista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 63-27 loss against Otay Ranch on the 31st. As for Eastlake, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 54-23 win against Hilltop on the 31st.
