Softball Recap: Tift County Beats Lowndes for Their Fifth Straight Victory

Tift County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Lowndes on Tuesday. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 11-2 victory. The contest marked the Blue Devils' most dominant win of the season so far.

Lily Robinson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hannah Grace Murphy was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Marlee Veazey was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Tift County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Tift County's fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Lowndes, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Tift County will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Vikings: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
