Baseball Recap: Firestone Comes Up Short

Firestone dropped to 10-7 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Ellet Orangement by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since March 28th.

Firestone saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Plas, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Plas has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Another was Nate McGuire, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for Ellet, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 9-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Firestone since April 27, 2024.

On Ellet's side, Cullen McKeel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keaton Mckeel, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Ellet's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 2-11 when he doesn't). Evan Dowling was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Firestone will challenge McKinley at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Ellet, they will square off against Field at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
