Baseball Recap: Augusta E Comes Up Short

Augusta E was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Anderson C Cavaliers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cavaliers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-4 on Saturday.

Gabe Hayes was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits.

At the plate, Jason Bullard and Nathanael Reese stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bullard went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, while Reese went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Reese is becoming a predictor of Augusta E's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tucker Thomas, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Augusta E's record now sits at 6-5. As for Anderson C, their victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1.

Looking ahead, Augusta E will take on Georgia School for Innovation & Classics at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Patriots have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.14 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Anderson C, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Spartanburg at 6:00 p.m.
