Baseball Game Preview: Antioch Sequoits vs. Niles West Wolves

The Antioch Sequoits will venture away from home to square off against the Niles West Wolves at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Antioch took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Grayslake North, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Sequoits had just enough and edged out the Knights 7-6. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Antioch saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colby Costello, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Costello a new career-high. Zachary Rubin was another, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Niles West came into Thursday's contest having lost ten straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Maine East on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wolves have posted since March 30th.

Jack Tokarski looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Niles West is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-23 otherwise.

Antioch's record is now 12-16. As for Niles West, their record now sits at 3-24.
