The Iberia Rangers will challenge the Russellville Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Iberia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Iberia will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Crocker on Friday. The Rangers blew past the Lions 15-4. The Rangers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.
Jaylyn Piggott made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Kily McElroy was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kya Yoakum, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Iberia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Russellville didn't have quite enough to beat New Bloomfield on Thursday and fell 8-6. The loss continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost three in a row.
Russellville saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was K'Lea Basnett, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Audra Whittle was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Iberia has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Russellville, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Iberia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Russellville struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Iberia took their victory against Russellville in their previous matchup back in October of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Rangers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Indians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
