Baseball Game Preview: Callaway Cavaliers vs. Whitewater Wildcats

The Callaway Cavaliers will head out on the road to challenge the Whitewater Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games Callaway has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Callaway is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since March 16, 2024 on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Heard County 6-4. The Cavaliers haven't had any issues with the Braves recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Slade Hunt was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Harrington, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Luke Taylor, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Meanwhile, Whitewater never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 10-0 margin over McIntosh. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Whitewater has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. Callaway's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3.
