Softball Recap: Gretna Takes Down Ranked Broomfield

Gretna is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Broomfield. The Dragons never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.

Gretna got a great performance from Ava Nance as she didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Megan Marshall was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Burrell, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Gretna hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive contests.

Gretna's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Broomfield, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Looking ahead, Gretna will be taking part in a tournament against Chatfield at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.33 runs per game on average), something the Dragons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Broomfield, they will face off against Millard North at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
