Softball Recap: Calvary Day Cavaliers vs. Liberty County Panthers
Calvary Day extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-11. They lost 14-0 to the Liberty County Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on September 2nd.
Calvary Day saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Blakey, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
As for Liberty County, they pushed their record up to 12-10 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Liberty County's side, Kayleigh Barnard was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Barnard has posted since back in August. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played.
In other batting news, Layla Santiago was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Aeriela Jemison, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Day will head out to face off against Southeast Bulloch at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Liberty County, they will square off against First Preparatory Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
