Laurel took a 23-point loss the last time they faced off against Bowie, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, the Spartans made off with a 13-12 victory over the Bulldogs.

Laurel got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Demerius Custis out in front who threw for 106 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 44 yards. That's the most rushing yards Custis has posted since back in September of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Andre Stokes, who rushed for 103 yards on only 14 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Laurel proved: they limited Bowie to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The Spartans' ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.

Despite the loss, Bowie still got an impressive performance from Ethan White, who rushed for 76 yards and one touchdown.

Laurel has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-4 record this season. As for Bowie, they dropped their record down to 2-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Laurel and Bowie are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Spartans will face off against Blake on Friday. The Bengals' defense has only allowed 13 points per game this season, so Laurel's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Bowie, they will head out to challenge Annapolis at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
