Softball Recap: D'Evelyn Takes a Loss

D'Evelyn made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Chatfield, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Jaguars fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 4-2 on Friday. The Jaguars were red-hot at the plate heading into the game (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Chargers' pitcher proved too tough.

Nava Basquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, D'Evelyn saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Claudia Harris, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

D'Evelyn moved to 9-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Chatfield, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-10.

D'Evelyn wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 13-1 win against Valley on the 20th. As for Chatfield, they will venture away from home to face off against Ralston Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.62 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
