Preview: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Elliot Christian Eagles
The Venture Academy Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Elliot Christian Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Venture Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Tuesday, Venture Academy earned a 48-37 victory over Stone Ridge Christian.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Venture Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jz Lawrence, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 steals. Lawrence is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kimora Crawford, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 16 rebounds.
Elliot Christian proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 24) but on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 47-44 victory over Millennium. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Elliot Christian.
It was another big night for Bella Perry, who scored 24 points along with nine rebounds and five assists. Her trending in the right direction, as she's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Williams, who scored seven points along with five rebounds.
Venture Academy pushed their record up to 10-9 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Elliot Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Venture Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 47.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Elliot Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.6 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Venture Academy couldn't quite finish off Elliot Christian when the teams last played on January 9th and fell 51-49. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Perry, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and seven assists.
