Basketball Recap: Shasta's Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

After flying high against Lassen last Friday, Shasta came back down to earth. The matchup between the Shasta Wolves and the Pleasant Valley Vikings didn't end well, with the Shasta Wolves falling 67-49. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Vikings are ranked 20th).

Shasta lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Cali Soule, who posted 16 points. Bria Tate was another key player, putting up 13 points.

It was another big night for Aj Gambol, who went 11 for 22 on her way to 25 points and six assists for Pleasant Valley. The game was Gambol's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyah Fortune, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 14 points.

With the defeat, Shasta broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2. As for Pleasant Valley, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Shasta will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Shasta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.6 points per game this season. As for Pleasant Valley, they will venture away from home to face off against Enterprise at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pleasant Valley has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 190 points over their last three contests.
