Recap: Willits Wolverines vs. Lower Lake Trojans
The Willits Wolverines's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight defeat. They took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lower Lake. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Willits of the 50-40 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Willits' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Wright, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds. It was the first time this season that Wright scored 15 or more points. Hazel Cooke was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Willits were working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lower Lake only posted eight assists.
Tiahna Tubbs continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lower Lake, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Tubbs has scored at least a third of Lower Lake's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity McCoy, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.
Willits has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-16 record this season. As for Lower Lake, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Willits will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Cloverdale's favor as the team sits on eight straight wins at home while the Wolverines have been banged up by nine consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season. Lower Lake will take on the Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Helena has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 7.
