Soccer Game Preview: Irvine vs. St. Margaret's

The Irvine Vaqueros will venture away from home to face off against the St. Margaret's Tartans at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Irvine fell victim to Sage Hill and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lightning. While losing is never fun, the Vaqueros can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 732nd, while the Lightning are ranked 229th).

Meanwhile, St. Margaret's was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 3-0 to Portola.

St. Margaret's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Irvine, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which is still a better percentage than their 2-11-1 record this season.

Irvine skirted past St. Margaret's 2-1 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Irvine since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
