Basketball Recap: Costa Mesa's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

Costa Mesa had lost three straight headed into Saturday's contest, but Emi Kamikihara didn't let it get to four. The Costa Mesa Mustangs managed a 48-42 win over the Eisenhower Eagles on Saturday thanks in part to Kamikihara, who posted 18 points in addition to five boards and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season.

The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani Quero, who had six points and six rebounds. Those six boards gave her a new career-high.

Costa Mesa's victory bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Eisenhower, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Costa Mesa will be taking part in a tournament against Ayala on Monday. As for Eisenhower, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Fontana at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
