Baseball Recap: Milan Gets the Win

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Milan and Grosse Ile have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. The Big Reds walked away with a 6-1 win over the Devils. This was a revenge game for the Big Reds: when they faced off against the Devils back in April, they had to take a 3-2 loss.

Cameron Dessellier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ryan Hatfield and Roman Stubbe did most of the damage at the plate: Hatfield went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Stubbe got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Hatfield a new career-high. Scottie Brewer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Milan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Milan's victory bumped their record up to 7-18. As for Grosse Ile, they dropped their record down to 7-21 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Milan will host Cabrini at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Monarchs will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Big Reds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grosse Ile, they will take on Trenton at 10:00 a.m. on the 30th.
