Basketball Recap: Cypress Snaps Four-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Cypress won the last time they faced Kennedy and things went their way on Monday too. The Centurions secured a 50-44 W over the Fighting Irish.

Cypress' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hayley Walker led the charge by dropping a double-double with 15 points and 14 boards. Walker is becoming a predictor of the Centurions' success: when she posts at least eight rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Leah Shigekawa, who shot 46% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals.

Cypress smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Cypress' win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-4. As for Kennedy, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Looking ahead, Cypress and Esperanza will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest, having both just played. As for Kennedy, they will host Yorba Linda at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
