Baseball Recap: Stephenson Takes a Loss

Stephenson extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 13-8. They fell 11-8 to the Douglass Astros. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Astros this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 back in March.

Nick Northern and Chase Bryant stepped up to the plate in a big way. Northern went 3-for-4 with six stolen bases, while Bryant went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases and one RBI. Bryant is becoming a predictor of Stephenson's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 7-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Miles Allen, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

As for Douglass, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.9 runs over those games.

On Douglass' side, the team relied heavily on Jamarius Glover, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with six stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Glover has posted since back in February. Tymeco Cameron was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Stephenson and Douglass could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings. The Jaguars (ranked 372nd) will meet Peach County (ranked 68th) on Friday. Meanwhile, Douglass will take on Adairsville on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (347 vs. 136).
