Baseball Recap: Valwood Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Valwood had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lakeview Academy Lions, sneaking past 3-1. The victory was familiar territory for the Valiants, who have now won four matches in a row.

Valwood got a great performance from Camden Crump as he didn't allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings pitched. Crump has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Valwood saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Colson Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Another was Maddox Coile, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Valwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakeview Academy only posted an OBP of .167.

Valwood pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Lakeview Academy, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-15.

Valwood will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Lions: the pair will be back at it again later today.
