Recap: Aptos Mariners vs. Santa Cruz Cardinals
It was a good run, but the Aptos Mariners unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They were dealt a 68-35 loss at the hands of Santa Cruz. Aptos has not had much luck with Santa Cruz recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Aptos lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Guin Lines, who scored seven points along with two blocks. Gabby Wickham was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with two steals.
Tiera Oconnor continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Santa Cruz, scoring 24 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Oconnor has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Espinosa, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Aptos' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Santa Cruz, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Aptos will face off against Menlo School at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Menlo School focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up six on Friday. As for Santa Cruz, they will head out on the road to take on San Lorenzo Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. San Lorenzo Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 938th, while Santa Cruz is ranked 277th).
