Basketball Recap: Ventura Takes a Loss

Ventura fought the good fight in their overtime match against Buena on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Buena Bulldogs by a score of 64-61. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 52-44.

When it comes to explaining why Ventura lost, don't look at Brinley Anderson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 18 points and 20 boards. What's more, Anderson also posted four blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Emma Anter, who scored six points.

Even though they lost, Ventura smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in 12 consecutive contests.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Buena to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mimi Moon, who went 6-for-14 to rack up 19 points along with five assists and five steals. Moon has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alynah Leon, who went 6-for-9 en route to 19 points and five rebounds.

Ventura's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 13-1 and their overall record down to 25-3. As for Buena, they pushed their record up to 23-4 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Ventura has already played their next game, a 63-40 victory against Thousand Oaks on the 13th. As for Buena, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 60-52 defeat against King on the 13th.
