Softball Recap: Metro Tech Wins Going Away Against Apache Junction

After losing to Apache Junction the last time they met, Metro Tech decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Knights were the clear victors by a 22-2 margin over the Prospectors on Thursday. That looming 22-2 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Knights yet this season.

Esmeralda Baisa made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off seven hits (and only one walk). Baisa was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Metro Tech got a massive performance out of Emily Saldana, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave Saldana a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mariah Price, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Metro Tech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .707. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Metro Tech and bumps their season record up to 6-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 22.0 runs over those games. As for Apache Junction, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Metro Tech will square off against McClintock at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Chargers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Apache Junction, they will take on Florence at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
