Soccer Game Preview: Laguna Creek vs. Monterey Trail

The Laguna Creek Cardinals and the Monterey Trail Mustangs will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Laguna Creek managed to keep up with West Park until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Laguna Creek might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting West Park an easy 3-0 victory. The loss was the Cardinals' first of the season.

Meanwhile, Monterey Trail hasn't lost a match since November 23rd, a trend which continued in their latest game on Saturday. While the 1-1 score might suggest a draw, it was Monterey Trail who was credited with the win. Monterey Trail got it done in the shootout by posting four goals to Sheldon's two. The Mustangs' winning goal came courtesy of Xihuapily Virrueta.

Monterey Trail pushed their record up to 5-2-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 11 goals over those three matches. As for Laguna Creek, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1-1.
