Basketball Game Preview: Rio Linda Knights vs. Mira Loma Matadors

Rio Linda has gone a perfect 7-0 against Mira Loma recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Rio Linda Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Mira Loma Matadors at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Rio Linda has 12 straight victories, Mira Loma has 13 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Rio Linda's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Savannah Grant, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. Grant has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. LaRay Mitchell was another key player, putting up 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Rio Linda smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Mira Loma played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 79-9 defeat at the hands of Marysville. The Matadors were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-6.

Rio Linda's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 34.9 points. As for Mira Loma, their loss dropped their record down to 3-21.

Everything came up roses for Rio Linda against Mira Loma when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 67-11 win. In that matchup, Rio Linda amassed a halftime lead of 42-2, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
