The Piedmont Academy Cougars will take on the Tattnall Square Academy Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Piedmont Academy 4, Tattnall Square Academy 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Friday, Piedmont Academy didn't have quite enough to beat First Presbyterian Day and fell 5-4. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Zach Simmons was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mason Tumlin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Tattnall Square Academy let Stratford Academy stack four runs on them in the sixth inning on Friday but luckily Tattnall Square Academy prevailed anyway. The Trojans narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Eagles 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted against the Eagles since April 1, 2022.
Marquez Wilson was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Still, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Tattnall Square Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Piedmont Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 11-10.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Piedmont Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Tattnall Square Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .312.
