Basketball Game Preview: Whitney Wildcats vs. Edison Vikings

The Whitney Wildcats will take on the Edison Vikings in a tournament on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitney challenged Roseville on Tuesday. The Wildcats blew past the Tigers 56-29. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Whitney relied on the efforts of Ela Aras, who shot 55% from the field on her way to 13 points and six rebounds, and Natalia Benavidez, who went 7-for-11 en route to 17 points. What's more, Benavidez also posted a 64% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's achieved since back in January. Another player making a difference was Lilly Molloy, who posted four points along with five boards and three blocks.

Whitney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Edison took their matchup last Monday with ease, bagging a 53-13 victory over Ben Holt College Prep Academy.

Edison's record now sits at 2-0. As for Whitney, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Whitney came up short against Edison in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, falling 52-41. Thankfully for the Wildcats, Tierra Snipes (who dropped a double-double with 24 points and 20 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
