Softball Game Preview: Northgate Vikings vs. Whitewater Wildcats

The Northgate Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Whitewater Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Northgate's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Whitewater's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Northgate will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Lovejoy on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Vikings have won 14 contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Fayette County hit Whitewater with a six-run fifth inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Wildcats lost 10-2 to the Tigers. The Wildcats' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Whitewater's defeat dropped their record down to 14-7. As for Northgate, their victory bumped their record up to 19-6.

Everything went Northgate's way against Whitewater when the teams last played two weeks ago, as Northgate made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
