Basketball Game Preview: Gar-Field Red Wolves vs. Seton Conquistadors

The Gar-Field Red Wolves and the Seton Conquistadors will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Gar-Field knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Seton likes a good challenge.

Gar-Field is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Hylton: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Red Wolves blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 77-42 final score. Given the Red Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 297th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gar-Field to victory, but perhaps none more so than JJ Bell, who went 6-for-13 to rack up 16 points along with six boards and five assists. Bell is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Troy Hamlin was another key player, putting up six points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds.

Gar-Field smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Seton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past The Covenant School, posting a 67-31 victory. That 36 point margin sets a new team best for the Conquistadors this season.

Gar-Field's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.5 points over those games. As for Seton, their record is now 5-3.

Gar-Field couldn't quite get it done against Seton in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 as they fell 63-52. Can the Red Wolves avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
