Football Recap: La Joya Community Falls to Ironwood in First Game of Season + How To Watch

La Joya Community unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 12-6 to the Ironwood Eagles on Thursday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it five in a row.

La Joya Community didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kaley Velazquez and Ashley Radilla Luna. Velazquez got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Ironwood found their leader in sophomore Kamryn Felix, who picked up seven sacks and made 11 total tackles.

Ironwood's victory bumped their record up to 2-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Joya Community will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Alhambra at 6:00 p.m. on the 30th. As for Ironwood, they will venture away from home to challenge Fairfax at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
