Winfield is a perfect 10-0 against St. Charles West since October of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Winfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Howell North on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 4-3.
Winfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was D.J. Lang, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Olivia Van Cleve was another, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, St. Charles West can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over St. Charles.
Evelyn Denison spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Hayden McCollum was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Krahl, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Winfield's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-2. As for St. Charles West, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Winfield's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. Winfield has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for St. Charles West, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Winfield continue to outrun the ball?
