Soccer Preview: McKinley vs. Howland
McKinley hasn't had much luck against Howland recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Red Dragons will venture away from home to challenge the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, McKinley put up the most goals they have all season on Saturday. Everything went their way against Mathews as they made off with a 4-1 victory. The score was close at halftime, but McKinley pulled away in the second half with four goals.
Meanwhile, Howland's matchup on Thursday was close up to the half, but then they kicked things up a notch. Their defense stepped up to hand Solon a 4-0 shutout. Howland might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by three goals or more this season.
They hit Solon with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Dimitri ( Mitch) Gentis (2), Aydien Brefczynski, and Luca Naples.
Howland pushed their record up to 15-1-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those six contests. As for McKinley, the win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-15.
McKinley might still be hurting after the 11-0 defeat they got from Howland when the teams last played back in September of 2017. Can the Red Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
