Basketball Recap: Carissa Basurto Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Foothill

El Rancho's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They took down the Foothill Falcons 56-42. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Dons considering their 22-point performance the matchup before.

El Rancho got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carissa Basurto out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. Those 18 points gave Basurto a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Gonzalez, who went 7 of 16 on her way to 17 points and three steals.

El Rancho moved to 14-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Foothill, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Rancho will head out to take on Montebello at 5:30 p.m. on December 30th. El Rancho is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season. As for Foothill, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mojave at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
