Basketball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Monta Vista Matadors

Homestead and Monta Vista are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Homestead Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the Monta Vista Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Tuesday, Homestead was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 41-36 to Lynbrook. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Monta Vista's strategy against Los Altos on Tuesday. Monta Vista was the clear victor by a 60-38 margin over Los Altos. The Matadors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 22 points or more this season.

Monta Vista's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.7 points per game. As for Homestead, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.

Homestead took a serious blow against Monta Vista in their previous matchup back in January, falling 70-41. Can Homestead avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
